Potential Rail Strike in Canada Could Cause Disruptions
2024-05-15

Dear Valued Customer,

In a nearly unanimous vote, the unionized rail workers of Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) voted to authorize a strike, which is slated to begin as soon as May 22, 2024 against Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroads.

If a labor agreement is not reached by May 22 and a strike does occur, cargo dwell times are likely to see a sharp increase, which could cause significant delays throughout the supply chain as the options to get cargo out of the port and delivered to its final destination will be either be limited and/or severely compromised, as many industry leaders believe that any interruption caused by this rail strike will be severe.

With that in mind, we strongly recommend that you reach out to your logistics consultant to begin preparing alternate strategies to ensure that your cargo is not impacted by this potentially harmful labor action.

OEC Group is closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to your sales representative for any questions you may have regarding this developing situation.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
