Update: Coronavirus Port Congestion
2020-03-02

 Dear Valued Customer,

As China begins to recover from the effects of the Coronavirus, the unusual frequency of blank sailings has caused a backlog of empty containers at ports. The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are particularly impacted by increased congestion. As such, ocean carriers are limiting truckers' ability to return empty containers, raising the possibility of increased equipment charges for detention, chassis, yard storage, and trucking.

In anticipation of this, OEC Group is reaching out to impacted customers to mitigate their risk and is coordinating with our domestic trucking partners to promote load matching wherever possible in order to more easily return empty containers.

Please contact your sales or customer service representative to plan your individual strategies. In the meantime, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and issue periodic updates as we know more about how your business may be affected by the Coronavirus crisis.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

OEC Group
